About Us

Our Mission

At Friends of the DC Streetcar, we're more than just advocates for public transportation — we’re a community united by a vision of a connected, sustainable, and accessible DC. Our mission is simple: to ensure the streetcar remains a vital part of our city’s growth, while empowering riders, volunteers, and supporters to shape the future of urban mobility.

Who We Are

We are a group of dedicated DC residents, riders, and advocates who believe in the power of community transportation. From day one, our focus has been on making public transit more accessible, efficient, and eco-friendly for everyone.

What We Do

Advocacy

We champion initiatives that support the streetcar’s role in reducing congestion, cutting emissions, and providing reliable transit for DC’s neighborhoods.

Information Sharing

We actively inform our fellow DC residents about the importance of the streetcar extension to Benning Road Metro Station and the entire streetcar system.

Community Engagement

How We Work

We are primarily led by residents in the east end of the city who passionately believe in transportation equity. While we strive to be as decentralized and participatory as possible, we do have some layers of leadership to ensure our organization is sustainable and maintains a strategic outlook.

Want to be a leader? From our perspective, if you're a DC resident who supports the streetcar, then all it takes to be a leader in our organization is to start putting in some work! To learn about the formal leadership of Friends of DC Streetcar check out our Board of Directors page!
